FraudTech and Financial Crime proving to be a hot topic for FinTech North community in Manchester

Tom Connell / 28th August 2019

The 13th September will see FinTech North return to Manchester for an eagerly awaited FraudTech and Financial Crime event hosted by RSM and sponsored by RSM and MERJE. Over 120 people have already registered to attend from a range of financial services institutions, startups and scaleups as well as fraud and financial crime specialists from across Manchester.

Financial crime is estimated to cost the UK economy £14.4 billion a year with significant impact being felt by both businesses and consumers alike. The numbers on fraud are even more shocking, with over £100 billion lost to the UK economy each year. The FCA in their 2018 survey reported that UK banks are turning away as many as 1.15 million customers per year for fraud and financial crime reasons.

“In light of the continued growth of the Fintech industry and the demand for profitability, it is important that the risk of financial crime is given serious consideration and that businesses implement effective controls against the threat of financial crime and to ensure they are operating in line with regulation.

“FinTechs need to balance the demand for profitability with their financial crime and fraud prevention responsibilities.”

– Andy Hodson, Managing Consultant, Financial Crime and Fraud, MERJE

RSM will host the event at their offices in Manchester before also hosting a repeat in Leeds in November. Other speakers include Chris Leatherland, Head of Financial Crime at NewDay.

Being such an important topic which touches so many challenges in FinTech this event is proving to be extremely popular. There are a small number of tickets left so make sure you secure yours below.
