Some of the world’s largest and best-known professional services firms were founded in Leeds and the surrounding city region.
The Bank of England, the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority), the British Infrastructure Bank and the newly established Centre for Greening Finance and Investment have all landed or are landing in the city in the coming months. Leeds City Council are very supportive of the sector and are one of FinTech North’s key supporters.
Leeds is home to all of the major credit reference agencies, and many of the UK’s building societies have their base in Leeds or the wider City Region.
As such, Leeds has a real strength in Banking and Lending.
Leeds is home to several emergent FinTechs with purpose, such as Open Banking enabled climate challenger bank Tred, blockchain enabled real estate investment platform Curveblock, Debt advice FinTech Freeze Debt and gig-economy financial management experts WAC. Estonian bank LHV have recently landed in the city, as have SME lender Iwoca.
